NCKU is located in Tainan City, Taiwan, the Republic of China. It is situated accross from the Tainan Railway Station, offering convenient transportation. The total area of the school is 185.6 hectares, including the Cheng-Kung, Sheng-Li, Kuang-Fu, Cheng-Hsin, Tzu-Chiang, Ching-Yeh, Li-Hsing, Tung-Ning, Kuei-Jen An-Nan and Dou-Liu Campuses, and some areas designated for dormitory use. It is one of the most spacious and beautiful university campuses in this country.
This campus was the site of the Tainan Technical Institute during the period of Japanese Occupation(1895-1945) and is the birthplace of this university. It sits on a plot measuring 18.3176 hectares. Buildings housing the Departments of Engineering Science, Computer Science & Information Engineering, Mineral and Petroleum Engineering, Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Hydraulics & Ocean Engineering are located in the eastern part of this campus. Buildings for the Departments of Physics and Chemistry, and Ger-Chih Auditorium are located in the southern part of the center of this campus, and the Departments of Mathematics, Surveying Engineering, Biology and Main Library are located in the northern part of this campus. The Tsung-Ho Building, the Mechanical-Electrical-Chemical Engineering Building, the Earth Science Department building, the Physics-Chemistry Building, and the Information Building are located in the southwest of this campus. The Hsin-Yuan, Cheng-Kung House and the Guest Hall are located on the northwestern side of this campus. This is the oldest campus in the university with many luxuriant trees presenting a spectacular scene remembered by all NCKU students.
Sheng-Li Campus is situated across Ta-Hsuei Road from Cheng-Kung Campus. With an area of 8.4 hectares, it was obtained in 1950 and officially named Sheng-Li. This campus is designed to provide facilities for student accommodation, consumption and recreation. Currently there are Dormitories No. 1, 4 and 6 for males and Dormitories No. 2, 3, 8 and 9 for females in the south section. Former Dormitory No. 5, in the middle section of the campus, has been renovated into Yun-Ching-Hsuen as the second student activity center at the University. In the northeastern section is the old library compound, the front building of which is used as a venue (dubbed by NCKU students as K Hall) for students to engage in self-study, while its rear building houses the Alumni Information Center, the NCKU Incubation Center and a campus co-op store. In the northwestern section is Zenda Suite, a hotel complex for NCKU alumni under a BOT project. The NCKU swimming pool is also located in the southwest of this campus.
This campus (20.5 hectares), established in 1966 after being purchased from the Ministry of National Defense, is located to the west of Cheng-Kung Campus. Kuang-Fu Field, the Student Activity Center, basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, and the Chiang Kai-shek Gymnasium are located in the southern section of this campus. Kuang-Fu Men's Dormitories No. 1, 2, and 3, Military Training Building, the Wei-Nung Building, the University Administrative Building, and the Management Science College Building are located in the center of this campus. Buildings for the Industrial Design Department, the Art Study Institute, the Architecture Department, the Earthquake Engineering laboratory, the Urban Planning Department, the Hsiu-Chi Building, and the Liberal Arts College are located in the northern part of this campus. With the famous Banyan Tree Garden and the Cheng-Kung Pond on its north side, this campus is most beautiful at NCKU, and many student activities take place there.
Originally named Chien-Kuo, this campus has been renamed Cheng-Hsin in a resolution passed at a University Council meeting held on September 30, 2009. It is located to the north of Hsiao-Tung Road, to the east of Sheng-Li Road, and to the north of Cheng-Kung Campus. This 7.3-hectare campus, originally a training center for the country's army artillery units, was purchased from the Ministry of National Defense in 1971. Buildings for the Departments of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Medical Technology and the Biomedical Engineering Institute are located in the east side of this campus. Buildings for the Medical College and the Teaching Hospital occupy the west side of this campus. Compared to all other campuses on the University, this campus has the greatest floor space, a total of more than 40,000m2, and has great potential for future development.
This campus, established in 1983 after being purchased from the Ministry of National Defense, is located to the east of Chang-Jung Road and to the south of Ta-Hsueh Road, with a total area of 13.3 hectares. The Science-Technology Building, and buildings for the Departments of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering are all located on this campus. Fields for football, baseball, basketball, and volleyball are on its north side. This campus is the center of the University's major technology development efforts.
This campus, established in 1983 after being purchased from the Provincial Government Housing and Urban Planning Bureau, is located to the east of Chang-Jung Road and to the north of Hsiao-Tung Road, with a total area of 1.7 hectares. In addition, another 3.5 hectares was appropriated from the military, making a total area of 3.4 hectares for this campus. This campus provides areas for dormitories and sports facilities. In addition, apartment buildings designated for doctors at the NCKU hospital, single faculty housing, student dormitories, postgraduate dormitories, and tennis courts are also located on this campus.
This campus, measuring 2.8 hectares in size, is located to the south of Alley 66, Chang-Jung Section III, to the north of Tung-Ning Road, to the east of Lin-Shen Road and to the west of a road designated for urban development (EM-1-8M). In 1946, the school asked the Military Camp Property Management Administration to allocate the current site temporarily for the construction of its faculty dormitory. In 2005, the site was converted under the urban planning project of Tainan City into a land plot used for cultural and educational development. On September 30, 2009, the University Council resolved to designate the site as Tung-Ning Campus. With a portion reserved for faculty dormitory, the campus is designed to provide facilities for student accommodation and recreation.
This campus, with a total area of 8.5 hectares, is located to the north of Hsiao-Tung Road, to the west of Sheng-Li Road, and directly across from Kuang-Fu Campus. This campus comprises three land lots formerly occupied by the old Highway Motor Vehicle Office (1.1 hectares), Taiwan Automobile Company Maintenance Station (1.7 hectares) and the 804 Army Hospital (5.7 hectares), which were acquired by the University in 1988, 1999 and 2002, respectively for campus development. The campus is designated to provide buildings and facilities for medical and academic purposes. Presently there are three medical buildings, including a medical nursing building in the north, the second NCKU hospital outpatient building in the south, and a universal health building in the east. Specifically, the health building is used by the University to facilitate cooperative research with the National Health Research Institute. On the west side of this campus are academic buildings, including the building for the College of Social Sciences and the Y.S. Sun Green Building Research Center. The University plans to construct a building complex for the College o f Biology and Biotechnology.
This campus is located in Kuei-jen District of the Great Tainan City, with a total area of 26 hectares encompassing a 20.9-hectare land lot purchased from the Taiwan Sugar Company in July of 1987, a 0.6-hectare land lot purchased from the National Treasury Bureau in March of 1989, and another 4.4 hectares acquired from The Taiwan Sugar Company in July of 2008. It was originally designated by the University, with the authorization of the Executive Yuan, for development into an experimental field to help the Ministry of National Defense (MND) with the development of aeronautics and astronautics technology. However, in 1995, following the end of the educational research cooperation between NCKU and MND, this University set up a fire prevention research center with laboratory facilities on this campus under the commission of Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of The Interior and Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, Ministry of Economic Affairs. Subsequently, a building was constructed and inaugurated as the Building of the NCKU Fire Prevention and Safety Research Center. In July, 1998, upon approval by the Executive Yuan, the Architecture and Building Research Institute under the Ministry of The Interior set up research and experimental facilities for architectural fire prevention and performance, which has helped NCKU with the education and research in the fields of architecture and mechanical engineering. Therefore, this campus is distinguished from other ones as being part of a strong foundation for the development of national technology in Taiwan.
The campus has a total area of 72.2 hectares, encompassing several land lots obtained from the Taiwan Salt Works, Ministry of Economic Affairs, since 1993. It is designated primarily to provide buildings and facilities for industrial-educational cooperation and training programs. The buildings and facilities on this campus include the Hydraulic Model Experimental Field, the administrative building of NCKU Research and Services Headquarters (RSH), NCKU Environmental Resources Research Administration Center, a resource recycling plant, a fishery experimental laboratory and a hydraulic water quality laboratory. Notably, the hydraulic experimental field has the largest wave basin and wave flume in the world. The Headquarters works to facilitate the development of industry-government-university collaboration. The recycling plant serves to help manage the disposal of experimental materials from schools of all levels across the nation. Currently under construction are an aquatic technology experimental and teaching building, and a building for the Marine Biology and Cetacean Research Center.
This campus is situated in Douliu City of Yunlin County, and was transformed from a national army hospital complex and transferred to the University on July 1, 2005, as a result of a policy to streamline the military. The hospital complex, occupying a total area of 4.5 acres, has been instituted as a branch of the university hospital to continue its operations. In addition to several Japanese buildings, the newly-completed medical complex is intended to follow the former military hospital and provide medical services to soldiers, their family members and local residents in Yunlin County. Meanwhile, the University aims to operate a hospital-oriented campus to help fulfill national and local medical policies and meet medical needs in the Yunlin area.
